Industry 4.0 is the new industrial revolution that has its potential to both developed and developing countries. Implementing Industry 4.0 is today’s industrial goal for many states within the developed and emerging economies, some have already formulated their
strategies towards the transformation, while others are still working on theirs. Implementing Industry 4.0 comes with its benefits, yet it also has its challenges as well. The aim of this study is to identify and validate the factors that affect the intention to adopt Industry 4.0 among the Egyptian industrial firms. The study has utilised mixed-methods approach to collect the data via a survey distributed to 400 industrial firms forming the study’s sample. The survey was followed by four semi-structured interviews with respondents from
different sectors within the industrial population. The survey data was analysed via regression analysis while the interviews’ data was analysed qualitatively. The study could identify nine factors that affect the firm’s intention to adopt Industry 4.0 within its
technological, organisational and environmental contexts. These findings can be utilised by both strategy makers and firm managers in designing the Industry 4.0 implementation strategy on both the macro and micro levels.
